The Last Song is the new beginning for Miley, since the Disney Channel did not renew her long-running TV series Hannah Montana for the fifth season. On the movie The Last Song, Miley plays the role of Veronica “Ronnie” Miller, seventeen-year-old classical piano genius. She becomes rebellious when her life upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Tybee Island in Georgia. After the divorce of her parents Ronnie quit playing piano and never spoken to her father since he left.
One summer, Ronnie and her brother Jonah were sent to Tybee Island for vacation, a chance for the father and daughter to reconnect. Upon her arrival to the island, Ronnie is depressed, hostile and defensive toward all those around her, including Will Blakelee, a handsome and popular guy – until both of them become involved in protecting a Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest. She discovers Will is deeper than she believed. As Ronnie falls in love with Will, she also manages to reconnect the bond with her father through the one thing they have in common- music.

The plot of the Last Song is centered on the rebellious seventeen-year-old Veronica “Ronnie” Miller whose life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Tybee Island in Georgia. After three years Ronnie becomes as rebellious and distant anyone could get. Ronnie is a genius in classical piano but after the divorce or her parents Ronnie now rejects the instrument in favor of partying with her friends and has not spoken to her father since he left. Ronnie has been accepted to Juilliard School but she refuses to attend.
